the nest

Once there was a nest, some within were still within eggs, while others were not. Those in the eggs were not ready to be without the eggshells, in their own time, in the right time, they will leave. Soon enough. It was right for them to be in the egg. Warm, safe, secure. The right place for those who were not yet able to be without. Those who had left their shells behind still felt the need for the nest. For some it was the best place to be. Warm, safe, secure. They were not yet ready to be without. Others, though, had long been ready to be without the nest, preferred the safety of the nest to the unknown world without the nest. They were too big. They needed to fly. They would not. Instead of thinking why they should be flying, they thought about the nest. They thought about how wonderful the nest was. They often complained about those outside of the nest. "don't fly too close to the nest" they would tell the flyers, "think about the influence you have on those not ready to fly, not ready to leave the warm, safe, and secure nest." the flyers would ask, "why are you still in the nest? You can fly, too, you know." Some would say, "I need to be here as an example to the young" others "why risk falling?" or "you can't know I can fly" or "I am supposed to be here. This is where the Egglayer put me. This is where the Egglayer wants me to be. This is where I will stay."
They became experts, those who stayed in the nest. They became experts on flying, constantly criticizing those who flew, though they themselves had yet to even stretch their wings. They became experts in finding food, even though the only food they ever had came from the mouths and stomachs of others. They became experts on building nests even though the only parts of the nest they had moved was what they had bumped into, sometimes breaking the wall of the nest. Sometimes they would see a nest nearby hop to it, believing that it was better for them. "This place needs me." "This place has others like me." "This place is more comfortable." "This place doesn't talk too much about flying." "This place talks more about flying." As they moved to other nests, they spread their expertise. They influenced. They directed. They helped others to become like they were. Birds with wings, able to fly, with great potential. Wasted. They are supposed to fly. That’s what birds do. They fly. They fly off. They build nests. They create more birds that fly off and build other nests. That is their nature. That is what they were created to do. Birds fly, make nests, find food, make other birds, and feed baby birds until the baby birds can feed themselves. They do that until they die. You'd think it was easy to do what you were created to do. You’d think it was easy to be a bird.
Ephesians 2
10For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
Philippians 2
13for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
